Once the work had been completed the people moved back into the city of Jerusalem and the surrounding towns, Ezra the priest consecrated the city and the people confessed their sin, but rather than continuing to honour God they returned to their old ways of disobedience and idolatry. As the wall rebuilding nears completion and the gates are ready to be hung, the opponents of God try to distract Nehemiah from completing the works. How does Nehemiah filter out the noise and stay on task and what can we learn about that today?

In Nehemiah Chapter 5, we hear how the nobles and officials began to exploit the vulnerable workers. This displeased Nehemiah greatly. In Nehemiah chapter 4 we hear how, with the rebuilding work ramping up, the opposition sought to disrupt the project and discourage the workers. Nehemiah was a man on God’s mission, he received a call to go and rebuild the walls of Jersusalem, but this was not just a building project, it was an opportunity for Nehemiah to step into God’s plans and purposes. The question today is: How are you preparing for God’s call on your life?
